Crowning Lady 2007

Margaret Kealey

Margaret Kealey is delighted to have been asked to crown the Lanimer Queen and is looking forward to Lanimer Week. Her two daughters, Jayne and Gillian will be supporting her throughout the celebrations, as will her brother, Roy and his family.

A Lanarkian, Margaret has many Lanimer memories, including regular procession appearances, from the age of three; several through Mrs Diplacito's Dancing School entries. Her father, John Henderson was pipe major of New Lanark Pipe Band and participated in Lanimer events until his untimely death in 1974. Her father's pipes have been now restored, and will be played throughout Lanimer Week by ex-pipe major David Murdoch. Another Lanimer memory for Margaret is her role as companion to Lorraine Swan when she crowned the Lanimer Queen in 1990; a good rehearsal for this year.

Margaret is currently employed by South Lanarkshire Council as an Additional Support Needs teacher. She works with pre-five children, but was on the staff at Stanmore House for seven years; and looks forward to receiving her bouquet from a Stanmore pupil, after the crowning ceremony at the Cross.

Margaret's other interests include the local branch of the ARC, of which she has been Chair, and a member, for ten years. She is also a well-known singer at functions, locally, and beyond. She has been a member of St Nicholas Church Choir for 25 years, as has her companion for Lanimer Week, and good friend of many years standing, Eleanor McCallum. The choir had three memorable entries in the Lanimer procession between 1995 and 1997.

Margaret won't have to drive out of Lanark, to work, to the sound of the bands in the background, as she's had to do in recent years. Lanark finds ways to have its own at home for the Lanimers. We all wish Margaret well, joining the many greetings she has received already, and hope she has a memorable day.
