Crowning Lady 2008

Anna Lumsden

Anna Lumsden will crown our Lanimer Queen this year. A member of the Lanimer Committee since 1979, Anna is usually in charge of seating at the Cross, involved with the Reception, and Lanimer Court transport. She normally accompanies the Lanimer Queen on her hospital visits. Typically, she has continued, where possible, with Committee duties, as she prepares for her role this year. Her husband, Jack, as always, will be her greatest support throughout the Lanimer festivities. Their daughter, Kirsty, and granddaughter, Jodie, will accompany her throughout Lanimer Week. Their other daughter, Kandi, who followed her mother into the teaching profession, will be Anna's Companion on Lanimer Day.

Anna has made a significant contribution to life in Lanark over the years. She became an ordained Elder of Greyfriars Church in 1997 and has been a Presbytery Elder since 2005. Formerly a teacher in Wishaw she worked at Lanark Primary from 1966 to 1970. Her educational links continued through the School Council at The Robert Owen Memorial Primary School and Lanark Grammar School Board, of which she was Chairman in the early 1990s. She invigilated for, and been Chief Invigilator for the SCE Examinations.

In the 1990s Anna was employed as non-executive Director and Vice Chairman of Law Hospital NHS Trust, and later was a Trustee and Vice Chairman of Lanarkshire Acute Hospitals Trust. Her voluntary activities have included membership of the Red Cross and the Arthritis and Rheumatism Council for Research. She was also a member of the Lanark Ladies Speakers Club.

With such a background it is not surprising that Anna is honoured as this year's Crowning Lady. Surrounded by her family we wish her well throughout Lanimer Week and hope her role this year brings many lasting memories.

Happy Lanimers, Anna!
