Crowning Lady 2009Christine McPhail
Christine McPhail thoroughly deserves the honour as Crowning Lady. She has long connections with the Lanimers. As a child on Vena Kelly's lorries, to a Lady in Waiting in the 1969 Court, she graduated to sponsor many entries, with the Lanark School of Dance's Totley Tea Bags' being her first. By 1995 she was a Friends of Lanark Panto Club, and the lorries keep coming, under the banner today of C J (C & Joy) Productions, formed in 2003. Christine is a long-serving member of the Lanimer Committee, past convenor of the Entertainments Sub-Committee, member of the Silver Club and Castlebank Sub-Committees, and Lanimer Court trainer from 1998 to 2004. She is also a past Vice-Chair of the Tolbooth Management Committee. Since she first danced with Lanark Panto Club in 1962 and helped as an adult from 1980, Christine has sewn costumes, been its choreographer and director, and is currently in her third term of office as Chairman. This busy former member and Secretary of Lanark Community Council also manages to find time to bowl at Lanark Bowling Club, of which she is a Past President and Games Secretary. She is also a member and current Treasurer of the Cancer Research Lanark Branch, and even manages to swim, teach a 50+ Keep-Fit Class at the YMCA and invigilate at LGS! Christine's husband, Sinclair, has the 'if you can't beat her, join her' approach, working alongside her for the Panto and Lanimers. At home they share life with Dana and Sweep, their two cocker spaniels who love to go walks with them. In this special year Christine's proud parents will also be on hand to watch their daughter's role unfold, enhanced by Wilma, Christine's younger sister, who will join her as her Companion during Lanimer Week. We wish all of them a memorable week with this exceptional lady. Happy Lanimers, Christine! Photo : Archibald Photography Ltd, Crawford.
