LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

Lanark's Marching Song

by Maisie Martin
and Alex. Blair

Part of Lord Cornet's Procession.
The Lord Cornet elect on a March Stone prepares for a toast during Monday Night's perambulation.

The Border Towns all appear to have their own local songs and the desirability of Lanark having such a song has often been felt by the Lord Cornet and supporters when visiting other march ridings.

Miss Maisie Martin and Mr Alex. Blair of Glasgow have combined to compose just such a song—a simple theme which can be readily picked up by any listener.

The words are produced below.

Tramping round the Marches
on this special Monday night
Scores of loyal supporters
waving banners bright
Pay Lanark's ancient custom
a tribute every year
Moving forth and onward
with vision bright and clear.

Come all join together
in Lanark's Marching Song
And show our fond devotion
to the Town where we belong
Long may this loyal spirit
abound from year to year
And let the name of Lanark
live for ever dear.
