LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

Provost's Message

On this annual and historic occasion it is my pleasure to send greetings to Lanarkians at homes and, to those who, though now living in many far-off parts of the world, will be thinking of loved one, and of our wonderful old Lanimer Day.

As the time draws near for the Riding of the Marches to signal the beginning of a happy week, one never ceases to wonder at the tremendous enthusiasm, the hard work and the sacrifice of time given freely by so many, in preparing the numerous features of Lanimer Week. Indeed preparations often begin on a winter evening months before the Day, and great credit is due to those who give so much time and personal effort.

It is my sincere wish that the friendship, happiness and joy of all our Lanimers will be maintained in this, my first year as Provost.

I wish you all, and especially our children — "Happy Lanimers".

Harry F. Smith J.P.
Provost of Lanark
