LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

The Chairman Of The Community Council

What is Lanimers to you? The inspection of the "March Stones" to ensure the old Burgh boundaries are intact. The mounted procession on Monday evening, Lanimer morning and afternoon and the final procession and the Declaration at the Cross on Lanimer evening. What can equal the sight of the Lord Cornet riding down the High Street proudly bearing the Burgh flag high above his head. We cannot overlook the Wednesday night ride out supported so well by our young riders, this event has been neatly slotted into a week of celebration without sacrificing any of our old traditions.

Is Lanimers to you being chosen for the Court, being approached to be Lord Cornet. Is it the thrill of crowning the Queen or to be Sashing Lady. Is putting out a lorry (not float please) your talent? After last year what can we say, Scotland's biggest and grandest procession it certainly was! So much ingenuity, inventiveness, not to mention papas peddling power that enabled more than one "lorry" to complete the procession circuit.

Is Lanimers to you an occasion for family and friends to get together for a celebration. For exiles to come home if only for a few days. Whatever it may mean to you I wish you all the very happiest of Lanimers.

Chairman, The Royal Burgh of Lanark Community Council
