LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

The Provost Of South Lanarkshire Council

In this Royal Jubilee Year, let's hope the sun shines throughout Lanimers! Though I know from experience that even bad weather can't dampen the enthusiasm of the people of Lanark for this wonderful week.

My wife Barbara and I are really looking forward to it. 2002 is our fourth Lanimers and over the years, we have become quite familiar with all the fascinating traditions. What never ceases to impress me is the amount of work that goes on throughout the year, not only to organise the event, but to make all the magnificent lorries and costumes so spectacular.

I am especially proud that this year, one of South Lanarkshire's employees, David Strachan, is you Lord Cornet. It is quite a contrast from David's usual job as a Business Systems Engineer. We live in an electronic age, but the sense of community that makes Lanark's Lanimers so special is more vital than ever.

On behalf of my wife Barbara and I, can I wish you all a very happy Lanimers.

Provost Alan Dick
South Lanarkshire Council
