LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

The Chairman Of The Lanimer Committee

There is nothing more certain than change. Today's news is tomorrow's history. At one time people gathered at the cross to share gossip. Today they do not even meet. They use the mobile phone! Even the 'aye been' do not always stand up to examination.

What is it then that we get from our Lanimer Celebrations? Is it just a reminder of our proud history, or is it an opportunity for us all to get involved, as seen in the articles in this brochure. We must adapt and change to meet the circumstances of the day, in order to preserve that most important 'aye been' - the privilege of belonging to a community that cares for and treasures it's sense of belonging.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my three years as Chairman, supported by the hardest working committee that you could wish to find. You will have a new Chairman next year, among other changes no doubt.

I wish my successor and all who care for the life of this Royal and Ancient Burgh - A Happy Lanimers.

Robert Kirkhope
Chairman, Lanark Lanimer Committee
