LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

The Provost Of South Lanarkshire Council

Lanimers has to be one of the most impressive community events staged anywhere in the UK. It is a tremendous tribute to the commitment and ingenuity of the people of Lanark and the organisers of the Lanimer week celebrations, that they can stage such a large event with such consistently high standards. It is indeed a superb example for other towns and cities in Scotland to emulate.

I attended Lanimers last year in my role as Depute Provost. I was most impressed to observe the months of hard work that schools, parents and community groups invested in this special occasion.

As South Lanarkshire's new Provost, I am looking forward to participating this year and extending my gratitude to all the organisers in person. Let's hope the sun shines throughout Lanimer week 2003. Even if it doesn't, I know that visitors and local people alike will be sure of a warm welcome in the Royal Burgh.

On behalf of South Lanarkshire Council, may I wish everyone a very Happy Lanimers.
