LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

The Chairman Of The Lanimer Committee

I am very proud to be writing this year's Chairman's message. I have been a member of the Lanimer Committee since 1974 and have seen many changes, most of them for the good. With the help of South Lanarkshire Council we will have many bridges to cross in order to implement new legislation from the European Parliament involving stricter public liability and health and safety rules.

At New Year round our dinner table, with good food and a drink, Lanimer talk begins. "Who will be the Lord Cornet?" "Which school is it for the Lanimer Queen?" Then the maids and the court, the Crowning Lady and the Sashing Lady are discussed. The debate then moves on to discussing Lanimer lorries. I wonder how many homes in Lanark do the same? For me, this starts Lanimers every year. I always feel that from January until June, is the quickest part of each year.

After our celebrations this year, South Lanarkshire Council will begin the refurbishment and improvement of Lanark High Street. This will be something else to look forward to in 2005. But for now, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Lanimers for 2004.
