LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

The Chairman Of The Lanimer Committee

Throughout this past year as Chairman of the Lanimer Committee I have attended meetings of other organisations in the town to discuss events which will also be held during the summer months.

The thinking behind these other celebrations is to bring visitors to Lanark other than during Lanimer week, and to use the history of our Royal Burgh to put Lanark on the World Tourism map. Before our Lanimer celebrations in June there will be a re-enactment of the signing of the Ayr Royal Burgh Charter which originally took place in Lanark Castle in 1205. Unfortunately the Lanimer Brochure will not be in circulation until after this event, which is due to take place on the castle site on 21st May. However, dates still to look forward to will be a Medieval Fair on 20th and 21st August which will be followed by the Wallace Homecoming on the 9th, 10th and 11th September.

Last year I mentioned the refurbishment of Lanark High Street by South Lanarkshire Council and this is still ongoing. I have been assured by the contractors and South Lanarkshire Council that the South side of the High Street will be completed and clear for Lanimer week.

To close, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Lanimers for 2005.
