LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.

The Provost Of South Lanarkshire Council

Lanimers is one of the highlights of the year, not just for Lanarkians but for everyone across South Lanarkshire. Indeed it is such a popular event that it attracts people from even further afield, from many other parts of Scotland, the UK and abroad.

But for anyone who has attended Lanimers that is no surprise - it is a fantastic week-long event which has something for everyone. A tremendous amount of planning and preparation goes into this annual spectacle to make it what it is - a staggering display of community spirit and dedication to ensure that a magnificent tradition is retained and maintained for our future generations.

You would think that after more than 800 years of organising Lanimers every idea to improve it would have been used up - but I am sure that I speak for every regular spectator and participant when I say that every year there is something new to make the festival even more special.

It therefore gives me enormous pleasure, on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council, to be associated with Lanark Lanimers. I am sure that the 2005 celebrations will surpass all expectations and will be a credit to everyone who has selflessly committed so much effort into ensuring that everyone who comes along to such a magnificent spectacle will go home feeling a warm glow of happiness inside.

On behalf of the council, my wife Rubina and I would like to wish everyone a happy and enjoyable Lanimers.

Provost Mushtaq Ahmad JP
