LANARK LANIMER DAY
An ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the Sixth and Twelfth days of June annually since the year 1140.
 

The Procession Judges

The Lanimer Procession is the largest, the oldest and we believe the best procession of its kind held annually in Scotland. The Lanimer Committee are very keen to invite, as judges, individuals from various walks of life as well as individuals with Lanark connections.

This year we welcome the following as our Procession Judges:

Mr and Mrs Steve Bouchard

We welcome back this year, Steve and Lynn Bouchard from St Laurence, Jersey. Steve has been a member of the Optimists Club for over 32 years and both are heavily involved in the Battle of the Flowers Festival.

Lord Lieutenant and Mrs Gilbert Cox

Returning as Procession Judges for a second year, are Gilbert and Marjorie Cox. Both Gilbert and Marjorie are no strangers to this Royal Burgh, particularly since Gilbert's appointment as Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire in 2000. Gilbert is a Rotarian and a past president of Monklands Rotary Club.

Mr and Mrs Bruce Jamieson

This is Bruce and Dorothy Jamieson's third year and final visit to our Historic Lanimer Celebrations. Bruce Jamieson is the current Provost of the Court of Deacons of the Royal and Ancient Burgh of Linlithgow. Both Lanark and Linlithgow share a long and distinguished history and it is a tradition now for the Provost of Linlithgow to represent the town as Procession Judges at our Celebrations.

Mrs Edmere Mackie accompanied by Ms Karen Watt

Both graduates in design at Glasgow School of Art. Edmere recently retired after teaching Art for over 20 years at Kelvinside Academy, Glasgow and Karen is currently teaching Art at the same school. Both have been and are still involved extensively in costume design and in the creation and building of stage sets for school and non-school theatrical productions.

Sir Donald & Lady Mclean

We welcome for a second year Sir Donald & Lady Mclean from the Royal Burgh of Ayr. Sir Donald is a past Dean of the Guildry of Ayr which dates back to 1325. This year, Ayr is celebrating the 800th Anniversary of the Royal Charter being granted by King William the Lion at Lanark Castle and both Ayr and Lanark Guildries are involved in marking the event.

Ms Anita Manning

We welcome to our Celebrations this year Anita Manning, Scotland's first woman auctioneer. In addition to being heavily involved in her family auctioneering house, the Great Western Auctions Limited, Anita also finds time to appear as an on screen expert in the BBC2 show "Flog It!"

Mr Alex Muir

Alex is a milliner by profession and since 1972 has been based in Pittenweem with his own business. His hats have been made for a wide and varied selection of clients including a number of past Procession Judges. A number of Crowning Ladies in Lanark have also commissioned their hats from Alex. In addition to making hats, Alex also lectures part time at Dundee College.

Sheriff Nikola Stewart and Mrs Isobel Cuthbertson

From Lanark Sheriff Court, joning us for a second year Sheriff Nikola Stewart and Mrs Isobel Cuthbertson. Sheriff Stewart was installed as Sheriff at Lanark in November 2000 and continues in this role.

Lady Stewartby

Deborah Stewartby is a grand-daughter of the famous Scottish author John Buchan and lives in Broughton by Biggar, in the house which was John Buchan's mothers family home. Within South Lanarkshire, she is a member of the Children's Panel. Other interests include being a Director of Scottish Ballet as well as the Scottish Trustee of the charity Barnardos.
