JIM FORREST must be one of the busiest men in Lanark. He has had a long association with boys' and youths' football in the district. He was 26 years with Kirkfield United Boys' Football Club serving as Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and Coach. Further, he coached the boys of both Lanark Primary and the Robert Owen schools. Currently, he is Chairman of Clydesdale Sports Council, dedicated to promoting and supporting a wide range of sports for all ages in the area. All this work is voluntary and he is committed to it, though it occupies much of his spare time, "I try my best", he says. Jim is employed by South Lanarkshire Council, working from the Memorial Hall, a wide-ranging job. He is a Scottish Executive member of the very helpful Community Transport Association. Married for 35 years to the patient, supportive Celia, Jim has two grown-up sons, Alan and Richard. The family is most appreciative, gratified and even overwhelmed by the support they have received from the townspeople. We all wish him well in his year as Cornet, a well-deserved honour.
