Lanimer Queen Elect 2004 SelectedThis year's Lanimer Queen will be Carolyn Baird, who was chosen by her fellow pupils at Kirkfieldbank Primary School on Monday. And Carolyn, of Nether Affleck Farm, won't be short of advice and guidance in her special year as her mother Joyce was Lanimer Queen in 1975. Carolyn (11) enjoys gymnastics. She trains with a Larkhall club and has represented Scotland in the British Acrogymnastics in the past, winning a bronze medal. She is also keen on the Lanimer celebrations, having taken part in most of the school entries over the years. "She is absolutely delighted, over the moon," said her mother this week. Joyce, who as Joyce Lindsay was chosen by New Lanark pupils, has very happy memories of her own reign as Lanimer Queen, although many things have changed over the years. She remembers giving out the Lanimer medals outside the school's science building to the youngsters in the Lanimer procession, something today's Lanimer queens no longer do; but she believes the girls have many other duties she never had, such as switching on the Christmas lights. And no doubt Joyce and Carolyn will have fun going back through her scrapbooks of her big day before it is Carolyn's turn. Joyce, who now works at New Lanark Primary School, and husband Jim have three children. Christine (14) is now at the Grammar School, but nine-year-old Ross will also be at the centre of this year's Lanimer celebrations, as he has been chosen as proclamation bearer in his sister's court. Lanark & Carluke Gazette Clyde Valley schoolgirl Carolyn Baird (11), will be upholding a family tradition when, on June 17, she is crowned 2004 Lanark Lanimer Queen. For her mum, then Joyce Lindsay, was the 1975 Lanimer Queen from New Lanark Primary School. Carolyn, a pupil at Kirkfieldbank Primary, lives at Nether Affleck Farm and was chosen by fellow pupils at the primary on Monday. A keen gymnast, Carolyn trains with a Larkhall club, and in the past has represented her country and won bronze in the British Acrogymnastics. And having grown up in a family with such strong Lanimer links through her mum, Carolyn is no stranger to Lanark's annual June festival, and in the past has taken part in several of Kirkfieldbank Primary's spectacular procession entries.
