Councillor Chosen as Crowning Lady

Lanark Councillor Mary McNeill spoke of her shock and delight this week after being chosen to be this year's Lanimer Crowning Lady.

The depute provost told the Gazette she was "totally and utterly speechless" when she was invited to fill the prestigious post last Thursday.

She said: "Beth Brown from the Lanimer committee told me it was the first time she had seen me speechless so it made quite an impact on me. I'm thrilled and excited; it's such a honour to be this year's Crowning Lady."

And this year's Lanimer Day will be extra special for Mary because her two grandchildren Molly (8) and Duncan (10) will also be in the procession. Mary added: "I have four grandchildren; two live in London and I have two in Symington who are big Lanimer fans. When I told my grandson he just said 'Never, get away!' I'm absolutely delighted and am very much looking forward to the day."

Mary said her day would be complete if her other two grandchildren, Max (5) and Eva (1) could also take part.
