Lanimer Delight For Jenna

Lanark Lanimer Queen-elect for 2007 is Jenna McLellan (11), who lives in the Wellgate, chosen by her fellow pupils at St Mary's Primary School last week.

Jenna's father's family is well known in Lanark; her gran, the late Betty McLellan, who was known to generations of Lanark Primary School pupils, running the small grocery shop which was practically the school's unofficial 'tuck shop' in Rhyber Avenue for many years. Dad Andrew is a contracts manager with a glazing company in Glasgow while mum Eleanor, originally from Coatbridge, has more than enough of a full-time job bringing up Jenna and her sister Lucy (6).

Probably the family's biggest part in the Lanimers to date was when Jenna's Aunt Anne was a Lanark Primary School Maid in a 1960's court.

Mum Eleanor said this week that she was delighted for Jenna. "It's been such a big thrill for her and a big surprise too. She had no idea she had a chance of being chosen and never mentioned once that she might be the one in her class chosen. I think it is all still sinking in for her. We're so happy for her."

Eleanor came across her first small snag as a Lanimer 'Queen Mother' just after Jenna's selection; because St Mary's was one of the last schools to choose its Lanimer court members, she discovered all the shop windows in Lanark High Street available for showing Lanimer Court dresses before the big day in June had already been taken!

However, a fellow maid and pal at St Mary's kindly came to the rescue and offered to let Jenna's dress go on display alongside hers in Happit's window.

Lanimer Queen Jenna's Royal Date

Royal Date: Thursday, June 7, is a date which is firmly ringed in red in Jenna McLellan's diary.

The 11-year-old from Lanark has been chosen as the town's 2007 Lanimer Queen by fellow pupils at St Mary's Primary School.

Jenna lives in the town's Wellgate, and her family, mum and dad Eleanor and Andrew, and little sister Lucy (6), were over the moon with the news this week.
