Crowning Lady 2007 Selected

Margaret Will Crown Queen

Mrs Margaret Kealey is the lady chosen to crown this year's Lanimer Queen.

She is best known in Lanark as a singer, providing the entertainment - usually accompanied by her brother Roy Henderson - at many of the town's social events, particularly the dinners for the Cornets, the Guildry, the British Legion and the Royal Burgh.

She is from a musical family - her father was pipe major of New Lanark Pipe Band.

Margaret is a keen supporter of the Lanimer traditions. She took part in her first Lanimers, and sang solo at the reception, at the tender age of only three, and she appeared in the procession from then until she was 14. As an adult she played the piano at the reception for many years for Stanmore House School and the Kilninie Club. A members of St Nicholas Church Choir for 25 years, she also put out three procession entries for the choir.

She is also chairperson and an active member of Lanark branch of Arthritis Research Campaign.

Margaret is a teacher of pre-school children with additional support needs with South Lanarkshire Council. She has two daughters, Jayne and Gillian, who are as excited and delighted at the invitation to crown the queen as she herself is. Her companion on June 7 will be Mrs Eleanor McCallum.

Lanimer Stalwart to be 2007 Crowning Lady

Lanark woman Margaret Kealey has been chosen as this year's Lanimer Crowning Lady.

Margaret made her Lanimer debut at the age of three years, and later sang solo at the Lanimer Queen's reception.

Her enthusiasm for Lanimers and lifelong association with the annual event - plus involvement in Lanimer parades - continued until the age of 14.

Later, Margaret's musical talents ensured her links continued as an adult by acting as pianist for a number of entrants at the Queen's reception.

A member of St Nicholas Church Choir for over 25 years, she has also appeared as a member of the cast in many musical productions in the town.
