Lord Cornet Elect 2009 Selected

Kenny to be 2009 Cornet

The 2009 Lord Cornet has been chosen with Kenny Lean being given the honour of leading this year's Lanimer celebrations.

Council team leader Kenny (41) was told the news at his home on Sunday night and is looking forward to his role even though he is still in shock at being chosen.

He said: "It's a very big surprise. I'm looking forward to the whole experience from the Kirkin' of the Cornet-Elect to the Marches and going to other common ridings around the south of Scotland.

"I'm still trying to get used to the idea but I've got no doubt that it's going to be something that me and my family will enjoy."

Kenny was born in Lanark but spent his childhood in Symington. He moved to the Royal Burgh 14 years ago and lives with wife Hazel and children Kirstin (9) and Murray (5).

He is a former chairman of the Lanark and District Round Table, which raised £18,000 for local charities last year.

Kenny is also the chairman of the Lanark Primary Parent Group as well as doing work for the Lanark Kranal Club and Biggar Rugby where he helps coach five, six and seven-year-old players.

He said: "Over the last few years I've helped build the float for the Kranal Club but I don't know how involved I will be this year.

"I'm always very busy and over the next few months I will definitely be even more busy than I am now.

"The kids are very excited about their dad being the Lord Cornet and I'm looking forward to Lanimer Week and everything that goes with it."
