Lanimer Queen Elect 2009 SelectedTaylor will be Lanimer Queen
Taylor Forrest, aged 11, was chosen by her fellow pupils at the school on Monday. And she told the Gazette that she had been "over the moon" when the announcement was made. "So was my mum," she added. And mum, Carrie Forrest was actually on hand to congratulate her as she works as a dinner lady at the school canteen. "I was a bit overwhelmed," said the proud mum. "I was in floods of tears." Taylor's younger brother A.J. (6), a pupil at the school, was also overjoyed. "He was especially happy for me," added Taylor. A.J. will be taking part in the Lanimer procession, with the school lorry, but younger sister Harley (4) is too young yet. Taylor, who will be 12 in May, is keen on sports, enjoying gymnastics, dancing and netball. She enjoys football, playing for the school team, and would like to play for Hamilton Accies! She has taken part in the school's Lanimer entry each year, so she understands the importance of the role she will be taking on. "It is an honour," she said. "I'm looking forward to the ball, and to getting the crown on Lanimer Day and seeing my dress." Taylor lives with parents David and Carrie at 24 Kildare Drive, Lanark, and she already has some ideas of how she would like the garden decorated for the big day on June 11! Members of the court chosen at Lanark Primary on Monday were: Chief maids, Natalie Nohar and Kayleigh Forrest, ladies-in-waiting Victoria Thomson and Michaela Hay, crown bearer Stewart Bruce, proclamation bearer Mitchell Tweed, heralds Dylan Simpson and Jordan Ferguson, and pages Adam Tennant and Lewis Ebbs, who were both absent on Monday and are missing from the photo. Other schools were choosing their representatives this week.
Lanark Gazette Taylor Made to be Queen of Lanimers
The 11-year-old, from Lanark Primary School, was elected by fellow pupils earlier this week. Now she is eagerly awaiting her big day on June 11, when - in front of thousands of onlookers - she will be crowned Lanimer Queen, continuing a 100-year Lanark tradition. Taylor, of Kildare Drive, has already taken part in Lanimers before, so she knows roughly what to expect during the big occasion. She has been in costume on the floats entered for the Lanimer Day procession by her primary school since she was a pupil of primary one. This week, Taylor was said to be "over the moon" to have been selected as Lanimer Queen. Her mum Carrie, who works as a catering assistant at Lanark Primary School, said: "Taylor is delighted. She keeps saying she thinks she is dreaming. "She is desperately looking forward to Lanimers. It will be a really busy week for her with all the different events lined up. "It is a great achievement for her and a tremendous honour." Taylor is also a talented footballer and plays for the school's football team. Carrie, who has two other children, A.J and Harley, added: "She loves football. She was just recently scouted by someone from the SFA who approached the school about her. "She loves anything to do with outdoor sports, whether it be football or netball, and is a really sporty girl." As part of the honour of being selected as Lanimer Queen, Taylor was invited to nominate two chief maids. She has chosen her best friends Kayleigh Forrest and Natalie Knohar. Last year the honour of Lanimer Queen fell to Sarah Smith of Robert Owen Memorial Primary School.
