Lanimer Queen Elect 2010 Selected

Carrie for Queen

Lanark's Lanimer Queen for 2010 will be 11-year-old Kirkfieldbank Primary pupil Carrie Elliot.

Queen-Elect Carrie makes Lanimer history as being the first holder of the title to be selected under the new system of a straightforward draw amongst the school's P7 girls.

Her name was first out of the hat on Friday, sparking off months of preparations for Carrie and her family, of Orchardview Drive.

Rightly proud are Carrie's dad Joe, a supermarket manager, mum Catriona, who works part-time at Crosslaw House care home, and siblings Kieran (8), Erin (6) and new wee sister Daisy-Mae, born nine months ago.

Catriona told the Gazette: "Over-the-moon is, I suppose, the only way to describe how we feel about it and Carrie is very excited.

"We've had calls from all over, offering congratulations and help and I suppose, soon, it'll be down to things like choosing what kind of dress she'll want to be crowned in.

"With Kirkfieldbank being a wee school, she expected to get something in the court but I don't think she was expecting to get the top spot!" The family have lived in Kirkfieldbank for six years; when Carrie was born at Law Hospital, Joe, a Drumchapel man, and Catriona, from Rosebank, lived in Lanark's Waverley Crescent but moved to Campelltown briefly before returning to this area.

Catriona said: "Carrie's birthday is in May so she'll be 12 by the time she's crowned.

"She's not the sort to let this go to her head and she's got all the usual interests of a girl her age, being a member of the Girls Brigade in Lanark and a fan of pop stars, Hannah Montana being one of her favourites.

"It's looking after her new wee sister she's really interested in just now!"

Chosen at the same time were her chief courtiers who will support her on Lanimer Day on June 10.

Chosen were Chief Maids Ellie Miller and Kirsti McWhinnie; Lady in Waiting Geraldine Laughlin; Crown Bearer Lewis Wilson; Proclamation Bearer Cameron Pollock; Pages Grant O'Neill, and Donald Gilchrist.

Carrie's crowning moment

Lanark's 2010 Lanimer Queen is to be 11-year-old Kirkfieldbank girl Carrie Elliot.

Carrie, who attends the village's school, made history on Friday by becoming the first Queen to be chosen from a hat, rather than by popular vote.

Now the family, parents Catriona and Joe, and their other children, Kieran (8), Erin (6), and nine-months-old Daisy-Mae are all eagerly looking forward to the big day, June 10.

Carrie, whose birthday is in May, is a member of the Lanark Girls' Brigade.
