Sashing Lady 2010 Selected

Honoured ... in PJs!

Solicitor Audrey Yule has been chosen as the 2010 Lanimer Sashing Lady.

The 56-year-old will sash 2010 Lord Cornet Geoff Smith at Lanark Cross on Monday, June 7.

Despite being a member of the Lanimer Committee for more than a decade, the news came as a shock to Audrey when Lanimer Committee chairman David Strachan visited her to break the news.

She said: "I was certainly surprised as I was in my pyjamas at the time!

"I was gobsmacked but I'm really pleased to be chosen.

"It's a massive honour so I would like to thank the committee for selecting me."

Born in Lanark during Lanimer Week, Audrey grew up in Motherwell and Airdrie before moving back to the Royal Burgh in 1978 after marrying husband Robert.

Her daughter Pamela also took part in the Lanimer procession on a number of lorries and entries.

Audrey has been a member of the Lanimer Committee for over 10 years and has served as judges convener since 2003 as well as in other roles.

She said: "I've helped out with various events, such as the crowning at the Cross on Lanimer Day as well as helping with the judges.

"They are always very enthusiastic and I've enjoyed working with all of them.

"The kids are fantastic on the day and I'm sure it will be exactly the same this year.

"I'm a great believer in traditions - it's important to keep Lanimers thriving."

David Strachan believes Audrey more than deserves the honour.

He said: "I think Audrey was gobsmacked when she received the good news but she has done a lot of work throughout Lanimer Week over the years and deserves it.

"She has been judges convener over the past few years and has done an excellent job."
